Comments:
This species is now found only in protected areas. The bark, stems, roots and leaves are used to treat colds and respiratory complaints. It is used as a tonic for an array of health conditions including fever, malaria, influenza, coughs and as a natural antibiotic for chest infections. The inner bark is extremely pungent, hence the English common name pepperbark tree. Due to its popularity its been severely overharvested in South Africa.
