Comments: Predominantly found in bushveld vegetation along mountainous ranges, this species thrives on rocky terrain in warmer temperatures. They often occur in dense, impenetrable stands, estimated to be up to 100 years old. During its flowering period, its nectar attracts many bird species, causing an influx of bird abundance and diversity. Leaf and root decoctions are used by amaZulu for roundworm infestations and by other cultures for stomach problems and horse sickness.
