Dietes bicolor

Dietes bicolor - Poublom, Uiltjie, Peacock flower, Yellow wild iris, Isiqungasehlati
.
Common name: Poublom, Uiltjie, Peacock flower, Yellow wild iris, Isiqungasehlati
Family: Iridaceae (Iris)
Distribution: Eastern Cape
Habitat: Along streamsides and vleis
IUCN Red list: Not evaluated
National red list: Rare
Life form: Geophyte (bulb, corm or tuber - seasonally dormant)
Comments: Although this Eastern Cape bulb is an easy-growing garden plant, it is quite rare in its natural habitat. This is because it is a habitat specialist which naturally only grows along streamsides and vleis from Grahamstown to East London. Yet, despite being a rare species, it is not currently known to experience any decline. It has flat, light yellow flowers with brown markings which only last for one day. It flowers from late spring to summer.
