Taxon

Cliffortia marginata

.
.
Family: Rosaceae (Rose)
Distribution: Stellenbosch to Elim
Habitat: Seasonally damp flats
National red list: Endangered
Life form: Shrub / sub-shrub
Comments: The leaf margins of this species are translucent, from which it received its species name "marginata". The entire genus is wind-pollinated and the flowers, not needing to attract pollinators, are inconspicuous. It only occurs on seasonally damp flats, but most of this habitat has been lost and consequently only four populations remain.
