Taxon

Disa cardinalis

.
.
Common name: disa
Family: Orchidaceae (Orchid)
Distribution: Western Cape
National red list: Rare
Comments: In the 1970s a red disa, Disa tripetaloides var. coccinea, was common in cultivation. Studies showed that this should be recognised as a distinct species. It could not be called D. coccinea, and in view of the bright red flowers, it was described as D. cardinalis.
