Comments: This is a widespread Cape geophyte that is distributed across the Western and Eastern Cape provinces. Its sweet-smelling yellow-green flowers appear in spring. This is one of two naturally occurring varieties of Lachenalia orchioides, the other being Lachenalia orchioides var. glaucina. The latter has blue to pink flowers and doesn't have a strong sweet scent like var. orchioides. Lachenalia orchioides var. orchioides is not currently threatened or in danger of extinction.
