Schlumbergera gaertneri

Schlumbergera gaertneri - Easter cactus
.
Common name: Easter cactus
Family: Cactaceae (Cactus)
Synonym: Hatiora gaertneri, Rhipsalidopsis gaertneri
Distribution: Brazil: Paraná, Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina.
Habitat: Epiphyte on trees or rarely, lithophyte on rocks, in tropical forest.
IUCN Red list: Not evaluated
Life form: Succulent plant
Usage: Horticultural
Comments: A localised species in Brazilian Atlantic Forest, known only from 5 location in the world and occuring over only 10-15,000 km2.
Despite being a globally popular house plant, especially in previous decades, in the wild this species is not at all common. It is under threat from deforestation and clearance for small-scale crop planting. Plants are probably also removed from the wild, especially when in flower.
