Stoeberia utilis var. giftbergensis

.
.
Common name: Boomvygie, Stoeberia
Family: Aizoaceae (Vygie)
Synonym: Ruschia utilis var. giftbergensis, Stoeberia giftbergensis
Distribution: Gifberg endemic
IUCN Red list: Not evaluated
National red list: Not Evaluated
Life form: Succulent plant
Comments: Ernst Van Jaarsveld rediscovered this rare and extremely localised endemic plant on the cliffs of the Gifberg and in 2015 published an article elevating the variety to species level. Mesemb expert and curator of the Bolus Herbarium Cornelia Klak does not recognise the validity of the species and considers it a variety or perhaps subspecies of Stoeberia utilis. Either way it represents a unique and localised variant and an important element of regional biodiversity.
