.
.
Family: Iridaceae (Iris)
Distribution: Paardeberg
Habitat: Swartland Granite Renosterveld, Boland Granite Fynbos
IUCN Red list: Not evaluated
National red list: Endangered
Life form: Geophyte (bulb, corm or tuber - seasonally dormant)
Comments: This is a highly range-restricted Cape geophyte which is restricted to the Paardeberg and of which only two known locations remain. The majority of its habitat has been lost to crop cultivation and consequently this species is now endangered. Its flowers look very similar to that of Babiana odorata, but is slightly bigger. The flowers also remain open and scented at night.
