Distribution: Roggeveld Escarpment: west of Middelpos to Sutherland and Komsberg.
Habitat: Seasonally moist flats, steeply rolling east-facing mountain slopes and summit ridges in shale gravel or heavy gravelly clay.
National red list: Vulnerable
Life form: Geophyte (bulb, corm or tuber - seasonally dormant)
Comments: This species is a range-restricted endemic to the Roggeveld Escarpment, known from only nine locations. Lachenalia congesta is threatened by ongoing habitat loss to farming and degradation. A number of subpopulations occur at sites which have been badly overgrazed and subject to trampling.
