Pseudoprospero firmifolium subsp. natalensis

Pseudoprospero firmifolium subsp. natalensis - Pseudoprospero
.
Common name: Pseudoprospero
Family: Asparagaceae (Asparagus)
Distribution: KwaZulu-Natal
Habitat: Rocky slopes and river valleys
IUCN Red list: Not evaluated
National red list: Vulnerable
Life form: Geophyte (bulb, corm or tuber - seasonally dormant)
Comments: A very rare and highly localised South African endemic which is only known from a handful of locations. Although the habitat type in which it occurs, Eastern Valley Bushveld, is not threatened as a vegetation type, virtually all of the populations of this subspecies face threats. Threats include peri-urban sprawl, livestock trampling and alien invasion. This is a very cryptic species and it is possible that some populations have been overlooked until now.
