Family: Geraniaceae (Geranium)
Distribution: Northern Cape, Western Cape

IUCN Red list: Not evaluated
National red list: Least Concern

Comments: This stem succulent is distinguised by the unusual spines on its stems. It occurs in sheltered places on dry stony slopes from Clanwilliam to the Richtersveld. Its succulent stem, tuberous roots and deciduous leaves are all adaptations to conserve energy during the annual hot dry summer. Pollination is done by bees, bumble bees and sometimes moths. At the Karoo Desert National Botanical Garden in Worcester, moths have been observed pollinating the flowers, especially in the late afternoon.
