Taxon

Pelargonium lanceolatum

.
.
Common name: spear-leaved pelargonium
Family: Geraniaceae (Geranium)
Distribution: Western Cape, Worcester, De Doorns and Montagu
Habitat: sandy and rocky
IUCN Red list: Not evaluated
National red list: Least Concern
Life form: Shrub / sub-shrub
Comments: As a Pelargonium it has highly unusual leaves; they are glaucous, fleshy and lance-shaped, slightly folded. The specific epithet, lanceolatum, refers to the leaf shape. In nature the plant flowers throughout the year but does have a peak period during spring. The contrast between the two upper and three lower petals is very marked.
