Tulista marginata

Tulista marginata - Haworthia, Tulista
.
Common name: Haworthia, Tulista
Family: Asphodelaceae
Synonym: Haworthia marginata
Distribution: Western Cape
Habitat: Shale or sandstone flats
National red list: Endangered
Life form: Succulent plant
Comments: This is a large species which occurs in the Western Cape. Like many succulent species, this plant has been subject to overharvesting for the succulent trade, a threat which has most likely been exacerbated by the conspicuousness of this particular species and has contributed to it being considered endangered. There has already been a 40% reduction in populations and it is estimated that there will be a further 20% reduction in the next few decades. Some populations also face other threats such as alien invasion and trampling by livestock.
