Comments: The fruit is a glossy, bright red drupe. The seeds are able to germinate under a dense canopy and are dispersed by birds and humans. It is an invasive species in KwaZulu-Natal and Eastern Cape. The dense foliage shades out native seedlings of the understory. Preparations made from the roots are used in traditional Chinese medicine.
