This tree attracts many insects through the pungency of its flowers and consequently many birds, its Afrikaans name aptly describing it. The flowering time ranges from October to January and its fruiting time ranges from January to May, proving food to an array of species during those periods. Historically, the roots and leaves have been used to brew herbal remedies for various ailments.
