Albuca bracteata

.
.
Common name: Barensui, False sea onion, Pregnant onion
Family: Asparagaceae subfam. Scilloideae
Synonym: Ornithogalum longibracteatum
Distribution: Mossel Bay to tropical East Africa
Habitat: Forest, Fynbos, Indian Ocean Coastal Belt, Savanna
IUCN Red list: Not evaluated
National red list: Least Concern
Life form: Geophyte (bulb, corm or tuber - seasonally dormant)
Comments: It is kept as a houseplant, because of the exposed bulb with curious little bulblets that form on the bulb layers, causing a 'pregnant' appearance until the layer sloughs off to release the bulblets. It usually blooms from May to August. The whole plant is poisonous.
