Common name:
Spekboom, Dwarf jade plant, Elephant bush, Elephant's food, Porkbush, iGqwanitsha, iNtelezi
Family:
Portulacaceae (Purslane)
Distribution:
Southeastern Africa

Comments:
It has the unique ability to absorb more carbon from the atmosphere than most other plants and it does so particularly efficiently. A stand of porkbush consequently has the ability to remove more carbon from the atmosphere than an equal amount of deciduous forest. Leaves are used to quench thirst and have a sour flavour.
