Taxon

Oxalis rubricallosa

Oxalis rubricallosa - Oxalis
.
Common name: Oxalis
Family: Oxalidaceae (Wood-sorrel)
Distribution: Northern Cape
National red list: Vulnerable
Life form: Geophyte (bulb, corm or tuber - seasonally dormant)
Comments: This species occurs on upper slopes in more remote areas of the Richtersveld where grazing pressure is not as intense as closer to settlements and on the western plains. However, as grazing lands in these areas are increasingly degraded (in some of these areas no palatable species remain), herders are likely to increasingly move into the mountains in search of better grazing for their livestock. Some areas where this species occurs, such as the northern parts of the Vandersterrberg, are already occasionally visited by herders.
