Diospyros egrettarum

.
.
Common name: Bois d'ébène d'ile aux aigrettes feuilles
Family: Ebenaceae (Ebony)
Synonym: Diospyros reticulata
Distribution: Mauritius
IUCN Red list: Critically endangered
Comments: Once a dominant coastal ebony, the species is now reduced to fewer than 10 individuals on Mauritius and a larger viable population on Ile aux Aigrettes, a coral island off the east coast. A species of giant tortoise from Aldabra Island has been successfully introduced to Ile aux Aigrettes to replace the extinct native species.
