This species is a commercially grown fruit crop, but it is invasive in various habitats and disturbed landscapes in SA, especially around densely settled areas and abandoned fields. It colonises recovering degraded areas, which complicates restoration efforts. It can also change soil properties, which contributes to its invasive nature.
