Comments: This is the smallest of the 9 species of Scadoxus that are found in tropical Africa. It differs from other Scadoxus species in that the flowering stem and leaves arise from the rhizome and not from the pseudostem. Some Scadoxus species contain poisonous alkaloids and are extremely toxic to animals. This species faces no immediate threats and is still widespread in coastal regions of South Africa.
